Buffalo Valley Rail Trail

Buffalo Valley Rail Trail is a 9 mile trail between Lewisburg and Mifflinburg, PA. The trail opened for public use in November of 2011. The trail traverses mostly agricultural lands and is remarkable flat and straight. There are a significant number of road crossings but almost all are private driveways with very good visibility. Users are asked to respect privacy and not to photograph the local residents.

For more information visit the website dedicated to the trail. Alternately, visit the Facebook page for users of the trail.

Saucon Rail Trail

The Saucon Trail is a nice 7 mile trail south of Allentown, PA. I particularly like the variety of scenery along the trail. Portions of the trail were along Saucon Creek but it also passed marsh land, golf courses, farmland, and some very affluent residential areas. It also passed by or through several parks.

Learn more about the trail from the township website, the trail website,  or the Facebook page.

Greater Hazleton Rails to Trails

This is currently about a 7 mile trail. There are a few rough spots and an occasional soft spot so wide tires work best. The Greater Hazleton Area Civic Partnership has secured funding to extend the trail into the historic Eckley Miners Village. There are also plans to connect to the D&L trail in the Lehigh Gorge but this phase hit a bump when it was discovered the proposed route was habitat for an endangered flying squirrel. The partnership is currently working on an alternate route. The current trail offers spectacular foliage views in the fall. It passes the Dreck Creek Reservoir. Parking at the main trail-head on RT93 means the trail is mostly downhill leaving a climb for the return ride. My most recent ride on this trail was April, 2021.

The main trailhead parking lot is located at: 40.94123, -75.94730 The address is 1805 E Broad St, Hazle Township, 18202.

For more information check with the Greater Hazleton Civic Partnership.

Walkway Over the Hudson

A rail bridge that has been converted into a pedestrian bridge forms the anchor for the Hudson Valley Trail Network. The network has been inducted into the rail-trail Hall of Fame. Located in Poughkeepsie, NY, the bridge offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. It is also the longest pedestrian bridge in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the bridge each year since it opened in 2009. The bridge along with the Hudson Valley River Trail and the William R Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail make for a memorable ride. My most recent ride here was in October, 2021.

Paid parking is available here: 41.71194, -73.92633. Electric vehicle charging stations are available.

The Hudson Valley Trail Network is #30 in TrailLink's Hall of Fame.
